TitlePhotographs of artwork: 'Aleppo Box' by Margaret Folan-Hollingsworth
Description"I decided to make a box after looking at the boxes that hold the special sealed documents in the archive. I was particularly interested in the family's textile trading connections in Aleppo. In recognition of this I chose to work the piece on silk in traditional embroidery.

"What I found striking in the family history was the parallel between Ralph Radcliffe's religious persecution of the Quakers and the war being waged by fundamentalists in Syria today. Also mirrored between the family and Aleppo is the theme of ending. The sale of the Priory and the end of the family's presence in Hitchin has a counterpart, albeit on a different scale, with the physical destruction and devastation of Aleppo today."
