TitlePhotographs of artwork: 'A Miniature Medieval Monastic Garden' by Felicity Marpole
Description"My inspiration came from a 1507 indenture or lease in the Delmé-Radcliffe archive, concerning land belonging to the Carmelite Friars of Hitchin Priory. It includes a Covent (Convent) Garden. This led me to research the vegetables, fruit and medicinal herbs that the Friars would have grown, as well as the techniques of stump work (3D embroidery) and needlelace. I used a variety of materials - threads, yarns, beads, twigs, cardboard, silk , felt, twine, wire, modelling clay and paint - to create a garden with two monks, Prior William (with a beard) and Friar Robert."
